With a little routine care, a quality rug will look good for many years. Here's how to keep yours at its best.
Everyday care
- Vacuum regularly without a rotating beater bar (or use a low / hard-floor setting) to lift dust and grit before it settles into the pile.
- Rotate your rug every few months so it wears — and fades — evenly, especially in sunny rooms.
- Use a rug pad to stop slipping, reduce wear and add cushioning underfoot.
Spills & stains
- Act fast. Blot — don't rub — spills with a clean, dry cloth, working from the outside in.
- For stubborn marks, use a little mild detergent diluted in cool water, then blot dry. Always test on a hidden corner first.
- Avoid harsh chemicals and soaking the rug with water.
Shedding
New pile rugs — especially wool and shaggy styles — shed loose fibres at first. This is completely normal and eases within a few weeks of gentle, regular vacuuming.
Professional cleaning
For a deeper refresh, we recommend professional rug cleaning every 12–18 months, or as needed.
